Collection capabilities, however, are rarely sufficient to satisfy
all intelligence requirements simultaneously.
Therefore, collection
resources
within
the
command
are
directed
toward
definite
intelligence objectives in priority of need. To establish priorities
easily, intelligence requirements are categorized as essential
elements of information (EEI) and other intelligence information.
EEI are the critical items of information regarding the enemy and his
environment. You will need these critical items by a particular time
so that they can be reviewed with other available data and
intelligence to help you reach a logical decision.
These decisions
involve the mission of the command and the course of action to take
to accomplish the mission.
The nature and number of EEI will vary
with the type of operation, the phase of the operation, and the
extent and accuracy of available data and intelligence.
When the
available data and intelligence are complete enough to help you make
a confident decision, you must not establish any outstanding
never so complete that additional requirements do not exist.
Other
intelligence
data
is
derived
from
command
and
staff
requirements which are important, but do not qualify as EEI.
After
collecting the data required for EEI, you must collect, compile, and
save the remaining information. This information can also affect the
mission.
Intelligence Update from the S3
The S3 handles staff matters on operations, training, security, and
intelligence.
You must forward a transportation request to the S3.
This request must contain a brief description of the operation, type
of cargo, weight, cube, priority, origin, destination, departure
date, special handling or outsize load data, security classification,
and any other data about the cargo which may assist him in providing
transportation for your transport operations.
Getting trucks to the right destination can be a major problem.
The
S3 can do several things to resolve the problem such as--
making sure that you provide accurate information as to whom,
when, and where requested transportation is to report.
furnishing strip maps to column commanders and to drivers when
on independent commitments.
having you designate a central point of contact at a central
location for truck drivers to report to.
