Combat Element Support
You should make every effort to personally coordinate with all combat
elements which may provide support for the convoy. They may include
the following:
Infantry.
Armor.
Cavalry.
Air defense artillery.
Army and Air Force tactical air units.
These forces may be able to provide convoy escorts to secure critical
points such as bridges, key terrain, and to sweep rest halt locations
and bivouac sites. Also, they can provide a ready reaction force if
the convoy is ambushed.
You should also coordinate with the rear
area operation center (RAOC) to determine what support is available
As you can see, the coordination and preparation of a motor movement
is quite extensive.
After identifying the units that will support
the movement operation, you must communicate and coordinate your
plans with support units. You must provide each supporting unit with
PART C - PROVIDE ROUTE OF MARCH, RADIO FREQUENCIES,
AND CALL SIGNS
You must provide the division TOC and the division artillery
operations officer with the following information, so that planned
fires can be plotted:
Route of march.
Call signs.
ROUTE OF MARCH
Normal peacetime highway traffic is difficult to control.
When
military traffic is mixed in with civilian traffic, control is even
more difficult.
The problem of controlling traffic under combat
conditions is horrible. To overcome this problem, you
