Column 2 - Svc (service).
Check for the appropriate service or agency.
This
letter corresponds to the first position in the consignee's Department
of Defense Activity Address Code (DODAAC) which is listed on the
manifest (see Figure 4-7).
Column 3 - L/T (long ton).
Ensure that the long-ton calculation of the total
pounds of cargo is correct.
To check the calculation for accuracy
(see Figure 4-8), take the weight (in pounds) from the cargo manifest
(84,360) and divide by 2,240 (long-ton weight measurement); this will
give you the long-ton calculation of 38. Round off, where applicable.
Column 4 - M/T (measurement ton).
To check the measurement-ton calculation for
accuracy, use the number in the cube box of the cargo manifest and
divide by 40 (40 cubic feet equals one measurement ton)(see Figure 4-
8).
Signature block - Check for the OIC's signature, certifying that the articles
listed have been placed aboard the vessel in good condition.
PART B.
REVIEW THE OCEAN CARGO MANIFEST SUMMARY
The Ocean Cargo Manifest Summary is the official source document used by the MSC
to render billings for ocean transportation.
The information on the manifest
summary (DD Form 1386) comes from the Cargo Manifest (DD Form 1385).
Information in the summary is used to determine rates for the cargo that is
shipped and to determine the account to which charges must be posted.
The
manifesting activity (WCA) will prepare a separate summary for each discharge
port.
Since DD Form 1386 is a dual-purpose form, you must check to ensure that an "X"
is in the box to the left of the word Summary in the upper left corner of the
form. In the upper right corner, check to see that the proper box, Original or
Revised has an "X".
To check a revision to previously submitted data, ensure
that each previously submitted item requiring deletion or correction is listed
under the heading DELETE exactly as it appeared on the original. Below the list
of deleted items, the list of correct entries should be entered under the heading
ADD. For more information on revisions, see Appendix E of this subcourse. After
checking the boxes for accuracy, you must review the header data (Blocks 1
through 7) on DD Form 1386 to ensure that entries are correct.
