PART D - COMPLETE DD FORK 626 (MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION)
AND REVIEW DD FORM 836 (SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
FOR MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVERS)
Carrying ammunition, explosives, flammables, chemical agents, and
know and observe all safety regulations. Do not transport ammunition
and gasoline cargoes in the same vehicle.
Also, consider the
location of vehicles loaded with these commodities when they are to
be part of a column that is moving personnel or other supplies. In
CONUS, Army vehicles carrying ammunition, flammable materials, or
toxic chemical agents across state borders must comply with the
appropriate Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) regulations.
Most
countries overseas have their own rules that must be followed.
When moving dangerous or hazardous cargo, you must ensure that the
equipment used to transport this type cargo is in excellent
condition.
Also ensure that the drivers are properly instructed on
that the drivers know the Department of Transportation rules and
other government regulations on fire hazards, proper fire-fighting
methods, procedures for reporting accidents and delays en route, and
any information that may help to ensure the cargo's safe transport
and delivery.
COMPLETE DD FORM 626
Before loading vehicles with Class A or B ammunition, explosives, and
other hazardous material, you must inspect the materials and complete
each item on DD Form 626.
You must also correct all deficiencies
before loading the vehicle.
Perform the inspection again at the
destination before the vehicle is permitted to enter sensitive areas.
Included in the items on DD Form 626 are the number of fire
extinguishers required, the number of reflectorized placards, and the
location of placards on the vehicle. This form also lists items that
the shipper must check before accepting the vehicle.
This includes
such things as the steering mechanism, lights, electrical wiring, and
brakes.
If any of these items are unsatisfactory, reject the
vehicle. After an approved vehicle has been loaded, you must inspect
it again and complete the bottom part of DD Form 626.
After
completing DD Form 626, both you and the driver must sign it.
DD Form 626 is divided into three sections:
Origin/Destination.
Vehicle.
