PART A - PURPOSES OF THE SPWS
In this lesson, you will learn to review SPWSs completed by your personnel.
During your review, you must ensure that your personnel are preparing and
distributing the SPWS according to DOD Reg 4500.32-R, Volume I.
To determine what information is necessary for an SPWS, you must understand the
purposes for the document. The purposes of the SPWS include:
Determining the shipment unit composition (what it is made of).
Preparing a TCMD.
Responding to tracer and management inquiries.
Reporting statistics.
Providing feedback shipping data to supply activities.
You may use
the format presented in this lesson.
However, you must have, as an SPWS, a
document or system that allows you to--
process shipments using the Uniform Materiel Movement and Issue Priority
System
(UMMIPS),
transportation
availability,
and
environmental
considerations.
develop procedures and controls for processing material requiring special
DD Form 1348-1).
determine shipment unit composition, optimizing line item and shipment
assign transportation priorities (TPs), transportation control numbers
(TCNs), and transportation account codes (TACs) to shipment units.
develop availability of transit privileges and stop-off provisions, as
appropriate.
obtain clearance for air or surface movement.
select the mode of shipment and carrier routing in coordination with
clearance authorities.
