OVERVIEW
TASK DESCRIPTION:
In this lesson, you will learn to supervise the preparation of the TCMD.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
ACTIONS:
Describe the information and procedures required to supervise the
preparation of the TCMD to include all formats and entries.
CONDITIONS:
You will be given access to extracts from DOD Reg 4500.32-R,
Volume I; and illustrations of DD Form 1384 (manual TCMD), DD
Form 173/3 (OCR) (electrically transmitted message), and the
punch card TCMD including formats and entries.
STANDARDS:
Supervision in the preparation of the TCMD will be according to
DOD Reg 4500.32-R, Volume I.

INTRODUCTION
Under the military standard transportation and movement procedures (MILSTAMP), DD
Form 1384 (Transportation Control and Movement Document) controls all shipments
moving in the Defense Transportation System (DTS).
This form provides the
clearance authority with the advance intelligence needed to control cargo input
to the DTS; provides the transshipping activity with the advance notice required
to process cargo for onward movement; and is the source document for ocean and
air manifest and logistics management reports.
It may also be used as a dock
receipt, tally sheet, or highway waybill.
