Now you must review the route reconnaissance map overlay provided
with the operations order.
This overlay is an accurate and concise
report of the conditions affecting traffic flow along a specified
route. It is also the preferred method to use when preparing a route
reconnaissance report.
The report is used to confirm the proposed
route with HTH.
If more detail is required to support the
reconnaissance report, supplement the overlay with written reports
which expand the description of critical route characteristics.
An
example of a route reconnaissance overlay is shown in Figure 2-3. An
extract of FM 5-36, found in Appendix B, page 119, provides a summary
of standard route reconnaissance symbols.
If too many problem areas/obstacles are encountered with the proposed
route on the operations order, you may have to suggest an alternate
route.
To do this, you may have to reconnoiter several routes and
compare the advantages and disadvantages of
