b. Lubricating oil pressure gage. The diesel engine lubricating
system's oil pressure gage is located in the locomotive cab. Observe the
gage frequently while the locomotive is being operated; investigate any
deviation from normal readings. Improper oil pressure causes excessive
engine wear and possible engine breakdown.
c. Lubricating oil supply in engine governor. The engine is equipped
with a governor to regulate its speed according to various throttle
settings. This is done by altering the amount of fuel introduced into the
cylinder. The governor has its own oil lubricating system. Figure 2.7
shows the oil level sight gage on one type of engine governor. This gage
has two marks; the oil level should be between them for safe operation.
